Nothing seems to faze the Netherton United U11 Girls at the moment, not even a very wet rainy, dark, and windy weather could halt the girls who were determined to qualify and move into the semi-final round of the Under 11 Cambridgeshire Girls and Women's Football League Cup competition.
The girls started the game playing against not just the Cambourne girls' team, but also against the rain and wind which continued to come down hard on the players and right onto the U11 Girls' faces. Some of our play was beautiful to watch with the girls switching the ball from one wing to the other trying to get an opening. Encamped in the opposition area for the first 15 minutes, it felt like one of those days when we would not get the goal the team deserved at that stage of the game, with the opposition goalkeeper, defenders, and the post acting together to keep the game scoreless.
Eventually, the first goal came, which was followed by another and this settled the girls, as they now played with a lot more composure, picking out their teammates with good passes. Our keeper was helpless as she could not stop the rain attack and the only thing she caught was a cold⚽.
The best pass of the Match was from Altheya-Rae, from the edge of her box under pressure, she calmly evaded the two opposing players and played a pass out wide for Ella on the right wing who was unfortunate not to score after controlling beautifully and taking the space out wide before shooting at goal, missing narrowly. The best defensive moment was a proactive anticipation challenge by Tulula after a quick kick out by the opposition keeper as they tried to counter on us after a corner kick.
?The Star Player of the Match award went to Megan?. Well done to the girls for an all-around brilliant performance.
Next stop Semi-Finals!!!
