Netherton Utd began their second season in the JPL with a home defeat to a very strong and good Shefford side.
United dominated the first 20 minutes, but conceded a sloppy goal to go 0-1 behind.
Will Howarth equalised albeit from the slightest touch and a clear deflection from the Shefford Centre Back, but will credit him the goal for his overall performance. (1-1)
The away side started to get themselves into the game, and were starting to take control.
They deservedly went 2-1 up with a shot that was blocked by Harvey Henderson, but fell nicely to the Shefford player who drove it home with the Netherton keeper on the floor after diving for the first effort. (1-2)
Cameron Hodnett scored his first goal for Utd on his JPL debut, following in nicely and stabbing home a cross from the right. (2-2)
Home Keeper Marvellous Omorogbe was wrong footed for the third away goal and he was clearly disappointed with his positioning for the weak shot that took the visitors again in front (2-3)
The game was pretty even, despite being a little messy at times, yet both sides had good chances to score further goals.
United pushed Will Howarth up top for the last five minutes to try and nick an equaliser, but while pressed high in the Shefford half, the pacy visiting forward was put clear and drove into a one on one with Omorogbe who was judged to have clipped him and a penalty was awarded - which was neatly tucked away for a last minute goal, (2-4).
We will have better days and hopefully the lads will take lots from the game - which personally could of gone either way.
Congrats to Antonio and his team, who will do well in the JPL in their first season.
Best of luck for the rest of your games (except in the games against us in the league) ?
