Netherton Utd reached the quarter finals of the PFA Cup after a hard fought victory over a dogged Langtoft side determined to go one better in the competition than last year.

Netherton changed their normal formation to a more conventional 4-4-2 to help adapt to the pitch an conditions. It seemed to take the players a bit of time to adapt to the new system, with the football being played by both sides, scrappy to say the least. Midway through the half Netherton had a flurry of chances, the last chance bringing a quite brilliant save out of the Langtoft keeper, Adam Scott was the Netherton player to be denied. On 35 minutes Netherton had a great chance to take the lead at one end, only for Langtoft to break away after an score at the other. Netherton responded to that set back very well and equalised five minutes later through Roberto Da Silva and a fine individual goal it was, he beat two defenders before tucking the ball under the keeper. HT 1-1

The second half was a lot more open, with both sides putting more into their attacking play than their defending, neither side was able to take control of the game. With both teams looking increasingly vulnerable at the back chances kept coming and going, Netherton being guilty of missing the more clear cut opportunities. The game was eventually settled in the last minute of normal time when substitute Lee Clementson had the ball at his feet, back to goal. He turned smartly and got a shot off that the home keeper could only parry to the on rushing Tommy Randall who tucked it away. The match really could of gone either way but thankfully for Netherton it's their name in the hat for the quarter finals.
