Wollaston Victoria 0 vs Netherton United FC 2 - Saturday 6 January 2018 14.00

Netherton made the long away trip to Northampton without knowing an awful lot about their opponents, other than poor league form but a desirable cup run, knocking out a few UCL clubs along the way.

Dan Fountain, Michael Fox and Zack Fisher were notable absentees for Netherton.

Wollaston seemed to have done their homework on Netherton and didn’t let the city side have any time on the ball. Netherton dominated the affair in the first half, but just before the break a long throw from McDonough unlocked the home defence and Randall slotted in with a one on one with the keeper. Netherton had one last attack before half time with Ryan Wood denied a tap in by a breath taking tackle.

HALF TIME 0 - 1

The second half was less than a minute old when Netherton doubled their advantage. Ondre Ondain with the goal after good work from Karl Gibbs. The rest of the second half consisted of Wollaston sitting back and allowing Netherton time on the ball.

Chances came and went for the away team, with Karl Gibbs missing the simplest of headers after good work from McDonough.

The last action in the game came from 18 year old substitute Robbie Ellis, who saw the biggest player for Wollaston intimidating James McDonough. Ellis protected his team mate by pushing the player away only for the player to go down theatrically. Luckily for Netherton the referee saw the funny side of it and told both players to get on with it.

Special praise must be given to the Wollaston keeper, who pulled of a string of fine saves to keep the score line respectable. Hopefully it’s another away day in the next round so we can get back down the chippy!!!
