Netherton Utd 3 vs 1 Sutton Bridge Utd

The city side started the match well, all of their players getting early touches on the ball. They were patient in possession and almost every time they chose to attack it resulted in an effort on the away goal. Star player from last year Tommy Randall, was making his first start of the season and looked very sharp. Indeed he had already spurned a couple of good opportunities, before superbly taking a Ben Daly pass in his stride to round the keeper and side foot home.

There was the occasional lapse in concentration in the home defence, one of these moments allowed a Sutton Bridge forward to get in on goal, but keeper Aaron Kier made a good save to make sure the home side went in at half time with a lead.

H/T 1-0

Second half was more of the same with the home side controlling possession, and creating more chances, some good football was being played, although Netherton Manager Jon Harrison wouldn't of been happy with his players wasteful finishing at times.

On 55 minutes Chris Brown became the first Netherton player to be sin binned, instead of caving in the home side dug in and after some great football down the right hand side extended their lead. This time it Ondre Odain, who was also making his first start for the club, that clinically finished a good low cross from Captain Ryan Wood. Substitutions were made and on came Dwayne Rankin and Grant Watson, and the former made it 3-0 after some great wing play from Tommy Randall.

That was game over, or so the home team thought. They took their foot off the gas and were punished for a lack of concentration. The away side took a short corner that no one in the home defence reacted to, they put the ball into the box and it was nodded in by a Sutton defender. Shortly after this the referee blew his whistle for full time, and the three points were Netherton's.

Netherton face a tough fixture this Wednesday coming (23rd August) against a new look Thorney side, kick off at the Grange is 7:45pm.
