Quarter final placed booked

Netherton booked their place in the Quarter finals of the Presidents Shield with a late comeback that shocked Stamford Lions, who must of thought they were heading towards victory, the way the game was going.

Netherton controlled the first 20 mins of the game with good possession, upping the tempo every now and then to create a chance. On 23 minutes the city side put together the move of the match, scoring what manager Jon Harrison called the "perfect goal". Some great one touch football slicing through the home defence with Zack Fisher putting the finishing touch to a great move to take his tally into double figures for the season.

5 minutes later Harrison's joy turned to anguish as he saw his team concede another quite pathetic goal from a set piece, Callum Madigan Challenged Will Montgomery at the far post lost the header and none of his teammates reacted leaving it to Tom Lees to tap in.

Things got worse for the city men 2 minutes before half time when defender Chris Hansford went on a foray up field only to lose the ball, Stamford Lions broke away and Luke Ball finished well.

H/T 2-1

Second half was poor to watch, neither side had any shape. It was end to end action and a goal for either like looked imminent, but neither side could put the ball away. The game approached the final 10 minutes and it looked as if Netherton were going to go out of the cup, that was until Ondre Odain stepped up to not only equalise and force extra time but to score the winner too. It was harsh on Stamford Lions who gave everything, but still came up short.
