Positive start continues for 1st team

Netherton showed that they are up for a fight this season, coming from behind to topple previously unbeaten Sawtry on Tuesday night.

To begin with, Netherton had to deal with a situation that was far from ideal, they turned up at 5:30pm but were unable to access Sawtry's ground until 5:55pm, 35 minutes before kick off, due to the entrance gate being locked.

There was little time for a warm up to be done, and it showed in the football that was played during the first half. Their movement was lethargic and their tempo was very slow. Lots of mistakes were being made by the away side and it was no surprise when a comedy of errors resulted in the home side being awarded a penalty, Micheal Fox was the Netherton player that made the hasty challenge inside the penalty area. The Sawtry player Cooly slotted the ball home to make it 1-0, which is how it remained till half time.

Netherton came out for the second half, and seemed a totally different side, their tempo was much quicker and the quality of their play much better too. Pressure was mounting on the home side, and before long it was too much. Netherton's Micheal Fox atoned for his earlier mistake by putting in a pinpoint cross for Eric Makate to nod home. Goals two and three for the away side quickly followed as they blitzed the home side. The second goal was a delightful chip from Ben Daly, and the third goal was striker Zack Fisher's first for the club. Netherton took their foot off the gas in the final 10 minutes, but Sawtry were unable to convert any of the opportunities they had.

Netherton Manager Jon Harrison said "What happened before the game was a joke, our play suffered as a result of this. We all had words at half time, and second half the lads were much better. In the end I was just glad to get out of there with the points. Fair play to Sawtry, they were much improved from last year."
