A sign of a great team....

Today we welcomed Sporting FC un11s to the Grange for our PFA cup game, Sporting, who are a new team this season and yet to win a game could and should have taken the lead within the first 5 minutes.

Netherton never seemed to get going in this game and play their usual standard of football despite this, 10 minutes into the game R.Salih spotted an opportunity for goal and managed to score direct from a corner, which relaxed the players, probably a little too much as they then gave away a penalty to Sporting, the penalty was saved well by L.Jones who was also captain, he kept hold of the ball to ensure there would be no rebound goals for Sporting.

Netherton then were awarded two penalties the first slotted home by A.Hamid with great power the first of his hat-trick. The second penalty taken by R.Sellick. We signed R.Sellick from Sporting in the summer and it was clear he had a point to prove scoring his first goal for Netherton and his first in football by slotting the ball beautifully into the goal keepers right side which gave Netherton a 3-0 lead at half time.

The second half saw Netherton UTD score a further five goals to compound Sporting’s misery, goals coming from E.Masunda, A.Hamid 2, B.Ponsford, goal of the day was from H.Cox who won the ball in the centre of midfield driving forward and lobbing the goal keeper from outside the box, an absolute beautiful goal from the new signing from Werrington FC.

Today again saw six different players score the goals which is fantastic from a coach’s point of view.

Even though the boys at Netherton have played a better standard of football in previous games keeping a clean sheet so far this season is a fantastic achievement – winning again today 8-0 stretching our unbeaten run to 16 games.

Well done to all the players today specially Captain L.Jones in goal who saved a penalty, A.Hamid for his hat-trick and E.Masunda for his man of the match award for his all-round composed hard working game.

Also thank you and well done to the supporters who continue to work hard for the team and support the boys and each other every week.
