Holbeach United (Reserves) 0 vs Netherton United FC 6 - PDFL Prem - 24 March 2018 2.00pm

With the business end of the season upon us, it was important Netherton didn’t slip up at lowly Holbeach United Reserves. Netherton went into the game without free scoring Ondre Odain, Jack Barron, Ben Daly, Tommy Randall and Louis Heming.

With Callum Madigan returning it meant Grant Watson was pushed into Midfield.

The game started pretty much how the warm up ended, slow and lethargic. Luckily Netherton found themselves in the lead with a hopeful clearance from Fountain and a flick on from Gibbs sending Zack Fisher on his way! It wasn’t long before Fisher got his second, a fine finish when one on one with the keeper.

A two goal cushion meant the city side were really able to relax and play football. Constant pass and move from the away team was tiring the Holbeach outfit. The third goal came just before half time, Madigan found Fountain with a delicate chipped pass and the latter scooped the ball across for Gibbs to chest home.

Half Time Holbeach United (Reserves) 0 - Netherton 3

The city side started the second half in a repeat of the first half in languid fashion. Maybe they thought the game was already won? Luckily for Netherton Aaron Keir was better with his hands than he is with his feet - pulling off a series of outstanding saves.

Calum Madigan was pulled just after half time for a poor showing in the second half, arrogance getting the better of him against his former team, and was also lucky not to have been sent for an early bath.

After the change it didn’t take long for Netherton to start motoring again and realising there was more goals to be had. Mastin having a simple tap in after a brilliant moved started with a Hansford run, a couple of passes ending with Baines being through on goal, he then unselfishly rolled the ball to Mastin to finish.

The gaffer Jon Harrison then introduced Netherton wonder kid Kyrie Foster to the game and he instantly made an impact, skinning his marker and pulling the ball back for Fisher to complete his hat trick. Fisher then got his fourth moments later.

With all the goals going in, it was easy for the manager and his assistant, to laugh at some of the things that happened during the game, defender James McDonough and keeper Aaron Kier, competing for the funniest moment by forgetting where the ball was and ending up with their faces in mud.

A word from Netherton manager Jon Harrison
"There’s a few things we need to start getting right when it comes to preparing for the game, but after slow starts to both halves the boys found their feet and played some great footy, three more points and the goals keep coming!!!"I should also mention despite the score line the Holbeach Goalkeeper had a fine afternoon".
