Netherton United 7 – Kirby Muxlowe 1.
GOALS: Katie Steward 4 – Cassie Jenkins – Hannah Murphy – Andreia Oliveira.
Player of the match selected by The Chairman – Katie Steward (Congratulations)
A warm day greeted the spectators to the Grange for this second round qualifier and the aim of the game for each club was to be in Monday’s draw.
With some of our experienced players returning today we hoped this would have a knock on effect and that the whole squad would put in a performance to send us through to the next round.
Netherton were seeing plenty of the ball in the early stages with several shots going over the top, wide or directly into the arms of the visiting keeper. Kirby tried a few attacks but the mid field and a strong back line ensured Lauren did not have too much to do.
The break through arrived in the 28th minute from the penalty spot. Having been taken out from behind Katie stepped up to plant the ball in the net with a hard and low strike. A five minute space and there would be two further goals to Netherton.
With 33 minutes showing and Cassie launched a free kick into the area and Katie was once again on hand to claim her brace. On 34 minutes and something special as Andreia picked up the ball some thirty yards from goal and unleased a shot that sailed over the keeper’s head.
With Katie on fire up front it was no surprise that she would add further goals and these duly arrived on 41 & 43 minutes. With the half time whistle bringing the game to a close at 5-0 it certainly had been a very good display for all the players.
A couple of changes were made with Codie coming off with a slight injury and Emma Searle coming on and Niamh replacing Megan.
Hannah Murphy added another goal 56 minutes with a fierce shot in the box from a wide free kick sent in by Cassie. Hannah on 64 minutes returned the compliment with Cassie knocking in from a couple of feet.
All credit to Kirby who kept chasing and were rewarded with a goal on 66 minutes. There were further substitutions made with Klinta, Hannah Johnson & Libby all getting some game time.
With the score at 7-1 and Netherton moving into the next round we now wait to see who our opposition will be. Thanks to Kirby for the game and we wish them well for the remainder of the season. This was an excellent performance from Lauren, through a hard working defence and a resolute midfield providing Katie the ball to do what she does best.
