Revenge over Leverington

Netherton gained some revenge over Leverington to book their place in the next round of the PFA Cup.

Netherton turned up in Leverington with only one thing in their mind, progress through to the next round. It looked like it was going to be a tricky afternoon as the city side only had 11 players fit and available for the game, leaving manager Jon Harrison as the only substitute.

The opening exchanges were quite even, both sides looking dangerous going forward. Netherton then turned the screw and put the home side under continuous pressure. The opening goal came 20 minutes into the game, a home defender attempted to clear the ball up field only to crash the ball against another, the ball fell to Zack Fisher who ran through and coolly slotted the ball past the impressive Lee Brooks.

The second goal came on 35 minutes, Fisher grabbing his second with a great finish from just outside the box. Netherton kept the tempo up and were rewarded with a third goal just before half time, the referee disagreeing with the home sides flag happy linesman, to allow Tommy Randall to play on, and he didn’t waste the opportunity.

H/T 0-3

The first half of the second half lacked any real quality from either side, Leverington were unable to pose a real threat, and Netherton were being a bit to relaxed, playing like the game was already won. The city side got their act together to finish the game strongly. On 70 minutes they got their forth, this time it was Ondre Odain with a tidy finish, better was to come from Odain who grabbed his second 5 mins later, controlling the ball with his chest on the edge of the box and volleying the ball home.

Top scorer Fisher then grabbed his hat trick goal after good work from Tommy Randall, Randall actually being brought down in the penalty area, but the ref waved play on as the ball ran to Fisher who tapped in.

Netherton manager Jon Harrison said “This was the first time me and Tommy just sat and enjoyed the performance, the lads were great. They scored good goals, worked hard for each other, and a clean sheet too. I was worried before the game, because of only going there with 11, but the 11 that were there were superb.”
