United ease into the Quarter Finals after Midfield Masterclass

A spectacular display from Midfield Maestro Lewis Leesons helped Netherton United book their place into the League Cup Quarter Finals.
Leesons shone throughout and scored four wonderfully taken goals as United romped to an 18-0 victory against Crowland Juniors.

It started badly for the home side when after just 6 minutes following a corner played to Jakub Nowicki, his shot rebounded off the crossbar and Captain Danyaal Younus was first to react and headed home from 5 yards. (0-1)
Trafford Crane added the second just one minute later with a great turn and shot from 18 yards out. (0-2)

United were very comfortable in possession and Keeper Bartosz Berezowski had not touched the ball in the opening quarter of the game. However that soon changed when the away side were awarded a Penalty and Berezowski was keenest of all to take it and duly obliged from the spot following the nod from Manager Roberts on the sideline to get his first goal of the season. (0-3) (Sorry Bob)

Netherton scored three more quick goals with Jakub Nowicki getting the fourth after a neat pass from Crane.(0-4)
Nowicki then helped with two assists to Lewis Leesons and then Habib Saifullah to take the league leaders further in front after 23 minutes.
(0-6)
Younus scored again from a corner (0-7) and Saifullah struck a screamer from the edge of the box to take us in to the break. (0-8)

HT

The second half instructions were "DO NOT GET GREEDY" and continue to play as a team. It would be all to easy to try and be an individual and get goal hungry; but Manager Roberts had set the boys two challenges: 1: "to keep the ball" and 2: "score more team goals in the second half as they had in the first"
The game was over but TEAM play was insisted on for the second period.

Crowland had hardly touched the ball in the opening exchanges of the second half and United's Keep ball was good to watch, yet despite the total domination it took nearly 10 minutes before the next goal was scored.
Lewis Leesons, who had been everywhere in the first half and had not put a foot wrong, scored a delightful goal from 18 yards out in the 44th minute, and that was the catalyst for the second half goal spree.(0-9)
United scoring 5 more times in the next 12 minutes. Nowicki getting his second (0-10), A Bob Horne stinging shot/cross from a really tight angle (0-11), Leesons with another classy finish for his Hat-Trick (0-12), Hashim Hussain with a quality goal neatly stroked in from just outside the box (0-13) and Leesons grabbed his deserved fourth on 57 minutes, with another great strike from 25 yards. (0-14)
Habib Saifullah who was also having a great game in midfield got his Hat-trick on 60 minutes; again after some great team play and good possession. (0-15)
Captain Younus made sure of his Hat-trick too with a clever side step and shoulder drop, before unleashing his wand of a right foot and curling a delightful shot into the net. (0-16)
Saifullah scored his fourth rounding off his best performance of the season (0-17) and a great effort from Trafford Crane, forced the Crowland Keeper into a superb save down to his right, but unfortunately for him Hussain was on hand to tap home the rebound and grab himself another Brace of goals his second double in two games.(0-18)

FT (0-18)

A very pleasing team performance from the United boys against admittedly an under-strength Crowland side.
However they had toppled title chasers Whittlesey 6-5 in their last outing, so Roberts was surprised at the Final Scoreline.

United through to the League Cup Quarter Final and will face Division Two high flyers Werrington who will be looking to cause an upset in the last eight.
