Warboys 0 vs 10 Netherton United

Netherton hit double figures to take full advantage of their title rivals dropping points.

At one point on Saturday the game looked like it was going to be called off. That was after a pitch inspection was called for in the morning, due to heavy rain. Thankfully for the city side the game went ahead.

Netherton have really hit a rich vein of form since their shock defeat at the hands of leverington a few games back, and that form continued on Saturday.

United dominated the match from the first whistle till the last, and were full value for the size of the victory, indeed one of the most impressive players on the pitch was the Warboys goalkeeper who made countless great saves during the game, as the city side had attack, after attack, after attack. In Zack Fisher and Ondre Odain they have two strikers on fire and very hungry for goals, but this was a team effort, and one to be proud of. The scoreline at half time was only 0-3 Fisher with one and Odain with two, the second of his was a special finish bringing the ball down from a ridiculous height in Thierry Henry style, then finishing with a lob.

H/T 0-3

The second half began a bit scrappy before Netherton once again took control, Zack Fisher getting his second ten minutes in, then It became a race to see who would get their hat trick first, and it was Odain that did that, but Fisher wasn’t to be outdone and completed his own hat trick soon after.

Then he also scored a couple more to end up with 5 for his afternoons work. The other two goals were scored by Dan Fountain and Micheal Fox who scored his first goal in over two years. Netherton looked very strong all afternoon with Mark Baines pulling the strings in midfield and their defence looking the most solid it has done all season.

Manager Jon Harrison said “ That was the best performance all season, there’s been a big improvement just recently and it’s come while the squad has been thin on numbers. With players coming back I believe we will keep getting stronger, we have to if we want to compete at the top.”
