Netherton United 5 vs Wellingborough Whitworths (Res) 1 - Saturday 25 November 2017 14.00

Netherton progressed through to the next round of the Northants cup in spectacular fashion.

Netherton started the game with no less than 5 first team players missing from the win at ICA the previous week. The instrumental Mark Baines had to pull out in the warm up, which meant Harrison had to shuffle the pack and partner Michael Fox with Louis Heming in the middle, the latter opened the scoring with a tremendous strike from 20yards. Eric Makate made it 2-0 with a tidy finish when 1 on 1. Callum Madigan finally opened his Netherton account with a Cooly struck penalty and Ondre Odain kept his fine scoring form up with another 2 goals. The only blip from the Home side was a Heming own goal.

Harrison said “Losing Bainesy in the warm up would be a blow to any team, but all the lads dug in and got the result we deserved!”

We now move on to next Saturday in the PFA cup against Warboys, a much improved performance will be needed if we are to progress in that competition.
