ICA Sports 1 vs Netherton United 3 - Saturday 11 November 2017 14.00

Netherton’s run of good form continued as they out battled an ICA Sports side that had been on a good run themselves.

Netherton looked strong on paper, and were able to name a near full strength squad for the first time in weeks. The only notable absentee from their match day squad was injured midfield maestro Mark Baines.
Netherton started strong as they set out to beat ICA at their own game. All was going to plan as they took the lead through captain Ash Jackson. He smashed the ball home after reacting quickest to a Ben Daly knock down from a Fountain corner.

Netherton were in total control of the game and doubled their advantage as their lethal strike force combined, Ondre Odain with a peach of a finish. Immediately Dan Fountain , struck the angle of the goal from a free kick a good 30 yards out. It all seemed too easy for the away side, even when top scorer Zack Fisher had to leave the field after a bad tackle the team just adjusted and remained in control. Then just before halftime the home side were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. When the referee blew his whistle for the kick to be taken it looked as if Netherton’s goalkeeper hadn’t quite finished lining up his wall, and ended up unsighted behind them. ICA skipper Nathan Glover just side footed the ball past the hapless Kier.

The second was very scrappy it became a case of which team wanted it more. ICA had the chance to level it, but the impressive Glover’s header hit the cross bar. Netherton were really under pressure but they stood up to it, and in striker Odain they have a real match winner. He scored the decisive goal, which ended the game as a contest from absolutely nothing. He chased down a long clearance, outmuscled two ICA defenders before lobbing their keeper from 35 yards out. It was a goal worthy of winning any match.
Netherton manager Jon Harrison was purring after the game, he said “The lads are buzzing at the moment, and so confident. They don’t fear anyone, and are showing they can win pretty as well as ugly which bodes well for the rest of the season.”
