Netherton 4 - 1 AFC Stanground

Netherton put in a great all round performance last night to reach the top of the Peterborough Premier Division for the first time this season.

It wasn't all plain sailing for the home side as Stanground showed up ready to give it a go. Indeed they shocked the home side into action by opening the scoring with the opening goal after 90 seconds.

Netherton responded well and from that moment on it was all one way traffic till the break Netherton were totally in control of the game apart from the scoreline. With a few wasted chances and a couple of great saves by the away keeper from a busy Ondre Odain the score was kept the same as H/T.

H/T 0-1

Netherton were told to be patient and not to panic by stand in boss Tommy Flynn who said to just keep doing the same thing until tire and then the goals will come. The home side didn't have to wait long as captain Ash Jackson put the teams back on level terms, with a great finish after good work from vice captain Ryan Wood, that was the start of a 15 minute blitz, that the away side just could not stand up to.

Next on the score-sheet was Zack Fisher, quickly followed by two goals from his strike partner Ondre Odain both took their tallies to 5 for the season. The home side saw the game out in a very professional manner, controlled possession and played some attractive football.

Stand in manager Flynn said "We were good the whole game, just in the second half we put the chances away. The whole team played well but a special mention for Ondre and Jacko, who were outstanding."
