Netherton A 6 v 5 Stamford Lions Res

Starting the game with 10 players and against the same opponents who had beaten them a week earlier 3-0, it didn't augur well for the home side. It didn't get any better when after a defensive muddle, a disputed offside and a tame effort on goal the home side found themselves 3 goals down...and facing an uphill struggle to keep the scoreline down!

However the Stamford team had not counted on a stirring fightback from the Netherton men, who despite behind in terms of scoreline and player numbers, were playing the better football and had galvanised into a determined unit.

Hard work and a great team spirit paid off, as one by one Netherton shots hit the back of the net with the pick of the bunch a worldy left foot rocket into the top corner of the net from Chris Garwell. When the half time whistle blew the 10 men in red shirts were remarkably 4-3 up...and had even missed a penalty too!

The second half allowed Netherton to track a full team and the game see-sawed from one end to the other.Netherton went further ahead and Garwell missed an absolute sitter to clinch the game and his hat-trick, however Stamford had rallied and were piling on the pressure against a resilient but understandably tiring Netherton.

The referee blew the final whistle at 6-5 to Netherton - a remarkable effort from the entire Netherton team and great entertainment for those watching!
