Wind spoils the flow.

Todays JPL Friendly between Kettering and Netherton was a scrappy affair with the wind being the winner of this game.

Netherton went into the game high on confidence after winning thyree from three so far this season, but went into the friendly missing Vice Captain Drew Budd; who suffered a triple leg break and ankle dislocation during a School match yesterday, and will no doubt miss the remainder of the season.

The Pitch was hard and undulating and the crossfield wind was severe, making it difficult for both teams to play football.

However credit to both teams who at least tried to do just that. The Peterborough side had two good chances to score before finally opening the scoring in the 16th minute, Hashim Hussain delivering a low cross into the box which Top Scorer Viliam Radic was certain to get onto, however the covering defender just nipped in before him and his attempted clearance sliced into the back of his own net and put the visitors in front. (0-1)

The second period was very similar however United Keeper Bartosz Berezowski made two "World Class" saves; the first one being a great double save after Kettering had loaded the box following some great play down the left. Quite how he got to both shots is still a mystery - great agility from the lad.

HT 0-1

The wind continued to batter the players and supporters on the far side of the pictch, and the bobbly surface made it hard for the players to string some passages of play together, although Ketterings number 9 was starting to look dangerous and was causing a few problems for the United defence, who worked hard to snuff out the danger.

Radic missed 2 glorious chances in the first period of the second half, one in particular after a superb pass from Hashim Hussain had split the Kettering defence, Radic controlled it beautifully before sending his shot over the bar.

Euan Hattersley was making his debut for Netherton and was performing well in central midfield. and deservedly picked up the Gold award for player of the match.

Loui Catt started the United second goal from his left back position, picking up the ball and driving up the wing, playing two neat give and go passes with two United team mates, before finding himself clear in the left wing position, his pulled back cross evaded Radic, but Ryan Thomas had timed his run from midfield perfectly to side foot in from 10 yards out. (0-2)

Kettering pulled one back in the last period of the game after a good strong run and finish from the dangerous number 9. However Netherton hung on and could of made it 3-1 had Jakub Nowicki sorted his feet out when clean through on goal.

Another great experience for all the lads in this JPL journey and our thanks to Duncan and his team for hosting us and laying on some hospitality after the game. All the best for the season to Kettering.

Next up for United is the re-arranged league game vs Wellingborough Town.
